An innovative and fun program to introduce young people to technical education.

In response to employers seeking technical employees, Sierra College has developed an innovative program to attract young people to highly paid, in-demand technical and manufacturing careers in California. The Sierra College Center for Applied Competitve Technologies (CACT) Tech-Explorer program brings tools and materials to schools and teaches the students to make projects that they take home with them at the end of the day. As a result of hands-on learning using tools such as mills, lathes and drills, students may discover a career path in designing, producing and repairing automated equipment.

These turnkey projects make it easy for teachers to move students' minds by introducing hands-on fabrication techniques. The projects are offered in academic English, math, science and history middle school and high school classes and meet state curriculum standards.
